ORCA surveys could not run without our incredible Team Leaders. The primary role of a Team Leader is to ensure that the whole survey team is supported, that the data is collected as per the ORCA Survey Protocol, and that the team is upholding the reputation of ORCA. It is a very rewarding role and is primarily about people skills rather than surveying and wildlife identification skills.
This e-learning course has been designed to support you during your Team Leader training, and will complement the training you will receive from ORCA staff remotely and experienced Team Leaders within the survey team.
After completing this course you will have a thorough understanding of the following:
- ORCA’s impact and the Marine Mammal Surveyor and Team Leader roles
- ORCA’s survey protocol and distance sampling methodologies
- The role of the Team Leader within the ORCA survey team, and the responsibilities involved
- The logistics of putting ORCA survey teams together
- You will be able to apply this knowledge to conduct a range of assessments and skills checks throughout the training course
To complete this course, you will need to read through all course content and receive a passing grade (80%) on the end of course assessment (ORCA Team Leader - Quiz).
The Team Leader training course is designed to be a flexible, fluid process tailored to each trainee’s needs, and will serve as a useful resource to refer back to when undertaking the Team Leader role.
