ORCA OceanWatchers is our citizen science monitoring programme, centered around our whale and dolphin surveying app.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the benefits of data collection, to compliment conservation efforts
  • Outline why collecting data on an effort-based approach is so important
  • Navigate throughout the ORCA OceanWatchers app; including finding species fact-files and viewing previous surveys and maps 
  • Confidently collect data on a range of environmental conditions when conducting a survey from land or at sea
  • Confidently collect data on any marine mammals sighted; the species, group size, number of calves, behaviour
  • Apply this knowledge to conduct a full OceanWatchers survey from land or at sea; including starting, finishing and uploading a survey
